Online High Schools

State Funded Cyber and Online High Schools & K-12 Listed By States M-W

The state programs below are all different, as school districts and Departments' of Education grapple "finally" with distance, virtual, cyber or online high school and K-12 learning.

This will soon be a huge debate.  Schools have battled distance learning, pulling kids away from their schools and saying kids need school "socialization" and classroom learning. Now they find the value in it, actually say kids learn better one on one, schools can provide AP classes and more curriculum than they could otherwise and now are embracing virtual learning as a good idea! Teachers are up in arms, with good reason, saying these virtual classes take the place of another teacher in the school.  Either way, students will benefit in the long run with more access to a variety of classes and several ways to learn.

However, we all know school districts move slowly, are often large, red tape riddled institutions and you have at most 12 years to craft a learning program best suited to your child.  Make sure you can be flexible over those years as educational committees work all this out.  Also, ALWAYS check with your local or state homeschooling association. They know more about these programs than most as they looked for alternative educations for their kids.
