Welcome to Mississippi Virtual School Pilot
The Mississippi Virtual School Pilot (MVSP) for grades K–8 is a special pilot program running from January through June of 2008. The pilot will test out a new form of public school that students in grades K–8 can attend from home. This unique pilot program combines strong parental involvement, the expertise and accountability of publicly funded education, and the flexibility of online classes. MVSP will help the State of Mississippi decide whether grades K–8 should be part of Mississippi's long-term plans for virtual education. Enrollment in MVSP for 2007–08 is now closed.
MVSP operates under contract with the Mississippi Department of Education. MVSP serves a total of fifty (50) students from across Mississippi in grades K–8. Connections Academy provides the program for students in grades 4–8. Students in grades K–3 are served by K12 Inc. Visit K12's Web site for more information on the K–3 program.
Parents pay no tuition for students to attend MVSP. Students are considered to be enrolled in a public school. MVSP provides textbooks and other curriculum materials, along with a loaned computer, printer, and subsidy for Internet service. All materials, including the computer and reusable curriculum materials, must be returned at the end of the pilot or when the student is no longer enrolled. Students are required to take all state-mandated, standardized tests in person at locations designated by MVSP.
