It's pretty simple, I'm a cyber school mom and a television news producer and I researched this subject for years as online high school was developing. And because I was living it at home I made sure my television station did stories on all aspects of cyber school and homeschooling as often as we could.
Now, my cyber student is a senior, in Keystone High School (which is a national cyber school) and we are almost finished. When she is done, I'll write about this year but at this point it would feel like an invasion of her privacy! I've loved cyber school but hated the reasons we had to use it. She has attended cyber middle and high school but has gone back to public school in between. It's been a long and bumpy road.
But I feel so strongly that this kind of education is our future, not for everyone of course but for many students who are left to fall through the cracks. Several years ago I learned HTML and website building and decided I could put a website together about cyber schools because I knew that school districts where doing their best NOT to tell anyone about this wonderful opportunity!
So please feel free to share your experiences with me. And if you write to me and I don't answer right away, I am really sorry! It's just me doing this website and it's grown to 148 pages and I sometimes don't get to all the updates when I should. But I appreciate your emailing when I have missed a school or a change in a state legislature's opinion of cyber school so keep the emails coming!
I firmly believe that all states will have good cyber school options in the next 5 years, and some states have great options right now. If we all advocate for this educational upgrade and help dispell the ridiculous myths about no socialization and inadequate learning it will move faster toward the norm where it should be.
All the best, Nancy
